 Linda Cateura has written a new book on American Muslims, called "Voices of American Muslims," to be published in MAY, 2005, by Hippocrene Books. It is the first book that presents our own Muslims living in America, their feelings about 9/11, the oppression and experiences they've endured since then, the backlash and their steadfast loyalty and love this country. It comprises a series of 23 narratives of Muslims from every level of our society, beginning with Dr. Elias Zerhouni, director of the National Institutes of Heatlh, anmd Professor Omid Safi of Colgate University, to a taxidriv er and a young Islamic schoolgirl beginning her first year in a public,non-Islamic school. It is a revealing, never-before investigated look at our Muslim neighbors in an effort to introduce them to their fellow Americans. In frank and unusual revelations, they reveal their lives here which have been hitherto hidden and set apart. Author of books about people of different beliefs and lifestylesAbout the Author Linda Brandi Cateura has spent all her professional life as a writer, journalist and editor. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and attended Albertus Magnus College, run by Dominican nuns, where she received a BA in English literature. She flirted with the idea of academia but after studying briefly for a master's degree at the Yale Graduate school, she soon left and came to New York to get a writing job. For seven years she was a fiction editor of Harper's Bazaar magazine. She has written for many magazines, done book reviews for The New York Times, written speeches in Italian for Mario Cuomo, and worked as an information officer for the New York State Department. She is currently writing a column for the Secretariat News, a United Nations publication. And oh, yes, she is the author of four books. Three of them are in a narrative form that she developed into a style of her own. For more details on her writing methods, click the icon Book Style that appears above. Along the way, she has delved into other things. She studied oil painting at various art schools for three years, painted portraits of people and pets on commission, devoted several years to community and political activities in her neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights, and once ran in a local election for a seat as committeewoman for a political convention. But after all is said and done, she goes back to her computer (formerly typewriter) and does her writing. |
